In 2002, Kim Thiessen was asked by someone in her church to make a CD of lullabies for a new granddaughter. In short order, Kim's home church, Foothills Mennonite Church in Calgary, had raised money to cover recording costs and she was off to Winnipeg to record a CD with Darryl Neustaedter Barg. It was to be a fundraiser for Mennonite Central Committee's program that supports those affected by HIV/AIDS...
Four CDs, close to 40,000 units sold, and approaching $750,000 raised, this musical project with humble beginnings continues. Kim and Darryl released their fourth CD entitled "Take Your Place" in 2010. A trip to the very rural Maasai village of Najile, Kenya, to record music and learn about HIV/AIDS work first hand. is the cornerstone of this release.
A fifth CD, to be titled "Even in the smallest places..." is due for release Fall 2013. Recording with partners in Guatemala and El Salvador took place in January 2013. Issues of HIV/AIDS are still a focus, but the realization that issues of migration and peacemaking are crucial in the fight against the disease, are coming into focus with this work.
Kim and Darryl are available to travel and sing. All proceeds of their voluntary work continue to support MCC's work with HIV/AIDS and peacemaking around the world. Please use the contact page for further info and booking.
